MIL-PRF-39005G
3.5.7 Power rating. Resistors shall have a power rating based on continuous full-load operation at an
ambient temperature of 125°C (see 3.1). This power rating is dependent on the ability of resistors to
meet the life requirements of 3.21. For temperatures in excess of 125°C, the load shall be derated in
accordance with figure 1 (see 6.5).
FIGURE 1. Derating curve for high ambient temperatures.
3.5.8 Voltage rating. Resistors shall have a rated direct current (dc) continuous working voltage or an
approximately sine-wave root-mean-square (rms) continuous working voltage at commercial-line
frequency and waveform corresponding to the power rating, as determined from the following formula:
E = (PR)
Where:
E = rated dc or rms continuous working voltage.
P = power rating (see 3.1).
R = nominal resistance.
In no case shall the rated dc or rms continuous working voltage be greater than the applicable
maximum value (see 3.1).
3.6 Conditioning. When resistors are tested as specified in 4.8.2, there shall be no mechanical
damage. The change in resistance shall not exceed ±0.01 percent for resistance values of 10 ohms and
above, and ±(0.01 percent +.01 ohm) for resistance values less than 10 ohms.
