PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATION
RESISTORS, FIXED, METAL ELEMENT (POWER TYPE),
VERY LOW RESISTANCE VALUES, GENERAL SPECIFICATION FOR
This specification is approved by all Departments
and Agencies of the Department of Defense.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This specification covers the general requirements for power type, low value (1 ohm and below), fixed
resistors (2 terminal and 4 terminal) for use in electrical, electronic, communications, and associated equipment.
Included are precision resistors of ±1 percent, ±3 percent, and ±5 percent initial resistance tolerances with power
ratings ranging from 3 watts to 5 watts at +25OC derated to 0 power at +275OC.
1.2 Classification.
1.2.1 Part or Identifying Number (PIN). The PIN is in the following form, and as specified (see 3.1).

1.2.1.1 Characteristic. The characteristic is identified by a single letter, that signifies the level of stability through
various electrical and environmental tests and operating characteristics. Characteristic T is available with the stability
as noted (see table I).
1.2.1.2 Resistance. The nominal resistance expressed in ohms is identified by five digits. The letter "R" is
substituted for one of the significant digits to represent the decimal point. The succeeding digits of the group represent
the significant figures. Minimum and maximum resistance values are as specified (see 3.1). The standard resistance
values for each decade follows the sequence demonstrated for the 0.01 to 0.1 decade in table II for all resistance
tolerances. Only those resistance values that follow the sequence of values listed in the 0.01 to 0.1 decade in table II
are considered as conforming to this specification. The resistance value designations are shown in table III.
